Fertile Window

Fertile Window

Fertile Window is the duration of the time during the menstrual cycle in which the chances of getting pregnant are higher. It is the day you ovulate and five days after that day. The ovulation phase occurs on the last day of the fertility window in which an egg is released in the fallopian tube. The egg remains there for 24 hours. After that, it makes its way to the uterus. If during that period the egg interacts with sperm then it is fertilized and becomes a zygote. Sperm can survive in the uterus for five days and the intercourse during that 5 days can result in pregnancy so there is not only one day in the whole month to get pregnant

How Can Fertile Window be determined?

The fertility window can be determined by using a basal thermometer and a calendar. Basal Body Temperature is the temperature of your body when you are at rest. The hormone called progesterone is produced during ovulation which causes the temperature of your body to rise. It remains high for two weeks and if during that time the egg is not fertilized with sperm then the egg dies and your next period starts. But if you are pregnant then the body temperature will remain high because the progesterone levels in the body are high. The other thing which you need to notice to determine fertile window is the fluid discharged from your vagina. Cervical fluids can tell about the fertile window during that time, your body will discharge egg-like white thin fluid called cervical mucus. Cervical mucus helps the sperm to reach into the uterus and nourish it.

The ovulation phase normally occurs 10 to 16 days before the next period. However, you cannot determine it by one or two cycles accurately. It may take a few cycles to accurately measure your fertile window. This fertile window can vary from women to women depending on the conditions and duration of the cycles. In order to accurately determine the window, buy ovulation test kits. These kits will determine the hormones in the urine during the cycle which will provide a roadmap to your most fertile days.

Difference between ovulation and fertile days

The total fertility window consists of approximately six days which includes the life span of the sperm and egg. Fertile days basically are all the days during the menstrual cycle when in case of intercourse you can become pregnant.

While ovulation occurs on 10 to 16 days before the next period. It is the day when the egg is released in the fallopian tube. Thus, in case if the couple has intercourse for like four to five days before the ovulation then the couple can conceive as it increases the chances.

Can you ovulate twice in one cycle?

No, the ovulation occurs one time during the whole menstrual cycle in a month. At some point in the fertile window, you will ovulate. However, it is possible that two eggs are released during the ovulation during the same 24-hour time.

Ovulation and Menstruation

During menstruation, the chances of getting pregnant are not zero. There are rare cases but it is not entirely impossible. The ovulation can vary on the duration of your periods, therefore, it might possible that you start ovulating right after the periods and thus there are still chances of getting pregnant even during the menstruation too.

The pregnancy hormone is created after six to seven days of fertilization. Thus, if you had intercourse then wait for some more days and then test in order to do a pregnancy test. If you have any missed period then Clearblue Pregnancy Tests can be used five days before the missed period. It may possible that the pregnancy hormones levels in the urine are not high still to be detected which indicates that you have tested early.

In order to calculate the period time when it is due to calculating the number of days between the first and second periods. The next periods will occur approximately near the previous ones and the total difference between the two periods will determine the menstrual cycle days.
